Vintage Lake Tahoe
Searching for a unique venue to hold their August wedding, Joy & Dan selected the awesome historic Thunderbird Lodge on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Built in the mid-1930’s by a prominent San Francisco businessman, this estate is a stunning example of the old Tahoe summer homes of “society” families. It is made of stone, perched on the lake’s edge and nestled amongst giant boulders and pine trees. During Joy & Dan’s 10 hour event, four separate meal services were provided with the wedding ceremony being held on the estate lawn under a hand-painted huppa canopy. As guests arrived via shuttles and limos, each were handed a ribbon and were asked to write a brief sentiment and then tie the ribbon to the huppa poles. After the ceremony, the newlyweds boarded a vintage boat for a quiet ride on gorgeous Lake Tahoe, and then the boat was made available for short jaunts, to the guests. Others took tours of the estate and especially enjoyed a tunnel through the solid granite that connected the main house to the boathouse, home to the famous Thunderbird yacht. Joy wanted nature to be evident everywhere so each table centerpiece was unique and different using natural elements of rocks, berries, twigs, as well as vibrant floral colors. |
