Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 13, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

As I mentioned in { Part 1} Suzanne and Chris was theee best couple with such a big heart and lots of energy!!  Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA offered the light-hearted elements they were looking for in their Special Day.  After the ceremony, during the cocktail hour, guests could stroll the property, enjoy a beverage, play ping-pong, cornhold, giant chess or jenga, (all these lawn games are permanent features of the venue!)  The newlyweds enjoyed a bit of photo time, along with some dee-licious grilled cheese sandwiches created by Jackson Catering & Events!

The color palette Suzanne wished for was romantic, natural, soft and “simply elegant.”  Working with the common thread of gray as the underlay, Katie with Ambience Floral Design, designed a free flowing centerpiece of greens, whites and varying heights of candles.  Very pretty.

Looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, Chris and Suzanne decided three different food stations would be fun for their guests – Loaded Mac and Cheese station, unique salads served with corn bread, and the street tacos were OUTSTANDING and a huge hit! Jackson Catering & Events knocked it out of the park!!

Two elements Chris desired was a full bar (check), and incorporating his favorite Land Park neighborhood Marie’s Donuts, into the dessert.  Looks so good, right?  I suggested an iced bucket of plain and chocolate milk to be served alongside (YES!), and displayed some donuts in the familiar pink box for a bit of whimsy.  At the end of the evening, I believe there might have been 4 donuts remaining!  After a few toasts, the dance party started with Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services at the helm.

What a beautiful, fun-filled and family-centric wedding this was.  I loved every minute of planning and executing.  Thank you Chris and Suzanne for allowing me to work with you on creating probably Thee Best Day Ever!!  See you in the neighborhood… maybe at Marie’s Donuts!

Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 1}

Dec 11, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I cannot possibly adore this couple any more than I do.  I love both families, too.  In fact, I planned two other weddings (groom’s sisters) and am grateful for their friendship.  Suzanne and Chris fell in love with Gold Hill Gardens, in Newcastle, CA and selected late September for their big day.  The venue had everything they desired – beautiful vistas, gorgeous gardens, fun games, room to spread out and lots of dancing space on the courtyard patio.  Suzanne is beautiful, bubbly ,sexy, happy and hysterically funny.  Chris is tall, handsome, the nicest person in the world, sincere and has the best “ugly cry” imaginable.  And his posse of groomsmen were off the hook – so much fun and craziness!  Sorry Gold Hill… I’m hoping the pillow fight and dog pile on the bed didn’t cause a loss in deposit!

And, yes… this is a onsie bunny romper Suzanne  likes to relax in – don’t judge!!

This series of photos of the First Look is so-so sweet.  Talk about the emotions.  I LOVE THIS and am so happy when a couple agrees to have this time together.

You know it’s going to be a good party when two friends pre-arranged their seating to greet the newlyweds with a flask at the end of the aisle!!

I’m thinking this couple is pretty stoked to be Mr. and Mrs.  The happiness level was off the charts!

Come back to see more happy photos and all the pretty details in { Part 2}.

Many, Many thanks to an equally happy and fun loving photographer, Beth of True Love Photo.  A perfect match for this couple!

Chris & Suzanne ~ Getting Married this Weekend!

Sep 18, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I cannot get enough of this wonderful couple.  Chris & Suzanne are marrying this coming Saturday at the beautiful Gold Hill Gardens in the foothills outside of Sacramento.  The weather is going to be cool and pleasant.  This couple is going to be “steamy hot!!”  I love how the wonderful Queen B (Beth Baugher) of True Love Photo captured the playfulness of these two, and the sulty, sexy side, too.  Their e-session was a ton-of-fun.  The wedding photos will be epic!  Can’t wait.

My beautiful daughter, Allison, married the love of her life one year ago today.  It was a blast planning and attending my own kid’s big day which was filled with tearful emotions and joyful laughter. Very proud of you both, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter… carry on!

First Row, First Chair, Left Side – Mother of the Bride’s Vantage Point

May 2, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I experienced a revelation when Allison & Scott married last month;  one that I was quite surprised to discover.  In all these years, as a professional wedding planner, when I send the moms down the aisle, I never thought about the mother of the bride’s vantage point.  As I sat in the front row, first chair, left side, I was looking at my daughter’s back or side.  I watched her nervous trembling and her veil shaking. I wanted to reach out with a motherly hand to soothe her (I resisted for fear she would jump!).  But while from this position I could not get a good look at her face, the face I was seeing clearly was my new son-in-law.  This young man whom I’ve known for 12 years and the one who was marrying our daughter had so much evident emotion. Because I faced his direction I could see his beaming smile when he looked at Allison and his calm manner was apparent, his eyes spoke volumes, but those eyes also had tears in them, he choked up a bit when he spoke, and pocket tissues came out to wipe away his tears. He was overcome by this moment, and so was I.  What a treat, from my vantage point to witness the love and affection he has for our daughter.  I like that I was able to see this obvious devotion.

Allison & Scott – Married! {Part 2}

Still bragging on my sweet daughter’s wedding day last month… both ceremony and reception was held at Antiquite Maison Privee, a cool hip/urban art gallery in mid-town Sacramento, and was the perfect venue for Allison and Scott’s intimate, sophisticated (but very fun) event.  The sentimental, tearful and emotional wedding ceremony custom created by Rev. Jeri Murphy was beautiful; even my 89 year old mother shed a tear!  Once the reception started there were lots of laughs and joyful celebration (and yes, that is my husband… the poor bride’s father… wearing photo booth props and being silly (thanks for capturing that Beth!!).  In case you’ve never seen the “shoe game” it’s quite entertaining. DJ Doug asked questions of the couple in which they would raise the appropriate shoe to identify which one the question pertained to… eye opening!  Ending the evening with an ice cream sundae station was the perfect touch to a beautiful and very sweet day.

The cute gentleman I am dancing with is my next son-in-law.  Yup, Derek is marrying Juliana (little sister) in April 2016.

It was a wonderful day and I am so grateful for all the vendors who generously contributed… you’re the best. Jennifer Gilchrist for making the ladies look so beautiful.   Jensen Films captured all the footage as did Beth with True Love Photo taking outstanding photos!  Doug and Dara of Music on the Move provided music, lighting and some very fun interactive games, Steve Schon with Function 45 DJ/Shoot Stars Photo Booth added that crazy entertainment element, Jackson Catering served the most delicious buffet and created a yummy ice cream station, and Rick’s Dessert Diner made Scott’s very own groom’s cake.  Sarah, with Cuttings Floral Design, did such a beautiful job at the entire floral palette.  And in order for me to be the Mother of the Bride, my dear friend, Kendra with Pfeiffer Event Planning was my day-of planner (she only had to tell me a few times to leave things alone and be a Mom!!)

Allison and Scott… Dad and I wish you the very best in your future life; may you be as happy as we have been for the last 32 years of wedded bliss!

Allison & Scott ~ Married! {Part 1}

I am a bit obsessed with this wedding…allow me to blog and brag (a lot!)… that of my first born, Allison.  As high school sweethearts, Allison and Scott have been joined at the hip. They have quite a history with dating,  college, Masters Program and landing employment, so they decided it was finally time to plan their wedding.  Allison has seen many of my clients’ weddings, and she had her likes, dislikes and opinions, so she was fairly equipped to make decisions on the planning of her own.  Scott was an involved groom… when he had opinion he expressed it; when he didn’t care, he said so.  The months of planning were fun and Allison and I enjoyed the process with no mother-daughter-wedding planner irritations… only a few eye rolls!Antiquite front

Wishing for an intimate wedding (just 40 guests) they selected the romantic, handsome, historic venue of Antiquite Maison Privee in mid-town Sacramento. Our crazy fun photographer, Beth Baugher of True Love Photo, invited us to use her studio for preparations because it is conveniently located upstairs above the venue.  We had so much fun!  (If you happen to notice a similarity with a beautiful bridesmaid, that is Daughter #2 – with a wedding planned for Spring 2016!)  After a First Look, the bride and groom and their bridal party went off to be photographed at various “hot spots” in midtown (and yes, that included a graffiti alley and laundromat!)

Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year

Dec 4, 2014   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I’ll have to look up who the “authority” is and why Pantone is considered the trend color authority for wedding decor (if anybody knows, please share).  For 2015 the color is “Merlot” – and I love it, but seriously, I feel it’s a fall color.

Pantone 2015 ColorFlourish Marsala 2

Shannon, with Flourish designed these two bouquets in the Merlot tones… both just gorgeous!  Many accent colors can work well with Merlot and it has a very romantic feel… so girls, if Merlot is your color, you’re a trendsetter!  Don’t forget to serve a delicious Merlot wine with your dinner!
