Amanda & Michael ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 1, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

If you read Part 1 on the blog about this  fun couple’s wedding, you’ll have learned that the day was H-O-T!  Like record heat H-O-T.  What I love about Amanda is that a week later, when I talked to her, she felt the weather conditions added to the details of the wedding – it did not detract and she feels will be one of the many memories they will carry with them in fondly remembering their special wedding day.  Love that positivity.

The wedding was held at Gold Hill Gardens in Newscastle, CA.  The “cool” ceremony site they chose was creekside in front of the majestic Heritage Oak tree, and once the nuptials were completed, guests headed up to the poolside bar, men rolled up their sleeves and all enjoyed libations. Some cute ladies dangled their legs in the pool, and a few others had a hand at corn hole and other lawn games.  The color palette Amanda and Michael choose was navy blue with “hot” orange accents and being total nature lovers, the flowers (which doubled as ceremony hanging aisle décor) were placed on a wood cut round and a rustic candle lantern accompanied the centerpiece.  Bridal bouquets were placed in vases to add to the head table décor.

As he evening progressed, the sun lowered in the sky, and the temperatures cooled down a bit, those hot guests started to get into the swing of things and really, really enjoyed themselves.  A delicious buffet by Jackson Catering & Events filled their tummies, and of course, just knowing that dessert was a table full of Krispy Kreme donuts (in lieu of a traditional cake), put smiles on the face of many excited guests.  Michael and Amanda enjoyed their quiet time away with photographer Teresa of Teresa K Photography who knows how to set up a “sunset shot” – even with the absence of clouds, these shots are gorgeous!

Love the First Dance between Amanda and Michael, and the emotions showing in this father-daughter dance moment is killer… so sweet.  But once those traditional dances were completed,  Steve Schon with Function 45 Event Entertainment pulled out the stops and this crowd totally forgot about the earlier heat in the day and got their groove on!

Makes you wonder what song these newlyweds were singing.  Such happiness and joy!

I am so thankful for the wonderful team who worked hard, tirelessly and with smiles on their faces through the very hot day.  Great group of professionals:

Amanda & Michael ~ Married! {Part 1}

Nov 29, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Love how Michael and Amanda came into my life… and I was thrilled to be part of their planning experience.  Michael was one of the groomsmen in my daughter and son-in-law’s 2016 wedding, and he and Amanda really enjoyed my kiddo’s wedding and knowing I had a certain hand in the planning (no surprise there!), asked if I could be involved in their 2017 wedding. Absolutely!  A relaxed, non-fussy, lovers of nature couple, I suggested for a wedding venue that they check out Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA, and it was a perfect fit.  So much so, they stayed 3 days at the Inn at Gold Hill Gardens for a mini-moon!  The spot along the bridge and creek, under the amazing spreading Heritage Oak was ideal for their style and vision of the ceremony site.  The date was set for the Labor Day Weekend, and we were somewhat prepared that it could be a warm afternoon… but we may not have been absolutely prepared for the  hottest day of the summer – predictions were for 110 degrees, but not to worry, during the ceremony, my iPhone app only showed 106 degrees (IN THE SHADE)!!!  We provided the guests with parasols, amusing personalized hand-held fans, water bottle sprayers and battery operated fans.  All were appreciated.

Rev. Jeri Murphy performed a lovely, meaningful and touching ceremony.  Michael and Amanda wanted the tradition of a Unity Candle lighting –  both sets of parents, with many years of marriage between them, were invited to light the side family candles. With such great role models, it was very symbolic.

Once the ceremony was over, guests moved to the poolside reception area for some serious liquid refreshment, Michael slipped off his suit jacket, and the newlyweds enjoyed a private moment with great laughter and love.  Come back in a few days for { Part 2 } to see how the evening progressed once the sun went down and the evening got cooler!  Can you say DANCE PARTY!?

What a fantastic vendor team I had the privilege of working with – who smiled through the hot afternoon:

Happy 1st Anniversary ~ Becca & Matt!

Jul 22, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

To sweet Becca and debonair Matt… Happy First Wedding Anniversary!!!  Your special day, held in the foothills outside of Sacramento, where the JULY HEAT was very evident, was such a wonderful, family and friend bonding day.  Becca chose soft pink tones which helped to make us all feel cooler (well, probably not, it did reach around 104 degrees that day).  Holding the traditional nuptial mass in an air conditioned Catholic church was VERY helpful, and Gold Hill Garden’s plentiful market umbrellas was definitely needed. The cattle in the nearby pasture sure enjoyed that cold watermelon slice!  But in spite of the heat, all was forgotten just watching your happiness and adoration for each other, and thankfully the sun set, the temps cooled down and thus the dance floor heated up – once again.  It was a great wedding! And I know you’ve had a wonderful first year of marriage {smile}… congrats on the new addition coming this fall!

Becca & Matt ~ Married! {Part 2} The Party and Details

Oct 19, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

After a perfect traditional Catholic Nuptial Mass at St. Joseph’s, Auburn, CA, the fun and frivolity began just a few miles away at Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA. It was a HOT afternoon and evening, but this venue has so much going for it… cooling blooming gardens, lawns and meandering pathways, sparking swimming pool, views of the Sierras and the cattle that lazily graze down the sloping hillside.  The venue owner (jovial and helpful Mike) sets up a variety of lawn games for the guests’ entertainment and he even gave Matt & Becca slices of watermelon so they could “entertain” two curious cows that came up to the fence.  Priceless!

11-wedding-games-a-day-to-rememberBecca requested a romantic palette of pinks and soft colors with a vibe of Vintage French. Matt had a preference for wood, leans to a Western motif and asked that his Dad’s cool old jeep be incorporated in some way. We blended these two styles perfectly. The guest tables were a mixture of wood farm tables and soft pink draped round tables and pink cut glassware was also added. The place cards were individual planter boxes (favors for the guests) that had their “brand” literally burned onto the wood boxes.  Quite the DIY project! This same brand was used on the menu cards and cocktail napkins.  The jeep became the “gift table” and a display spot for parents and grandparents wedding photos.

After a delicious family style alfresco dinner held under large market umbrellas on the courtyard patio, the party started! Family and friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves (I’m a softy for the daughter-daughter dance) as the evening temperatures cooled down and the sunset served for fantastic photos of the newlyweds.

Rebecca & Matt ~ Married~ {Part 1}

Oct 13, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Hard to believe on these temperate lovely fall days that back in July, the temps on Becca & Matt’s wedding reached 102+ degrees! It was a hot one for sure… but you can’t tell from the happy smiles, playful attitudes and cool pink colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses. Becca and Matt were totally on the same page when it came to their wedding ceremony. Becca and ladies prepared at the reception site, Gold Hill Gardens, while a tad pensive and nervous Matt, along with the groomsmen, organized themselves at home. They opted for no First Look, so separate limos picked up both groups and they gathered for a very traditional Catholic Nuptial Mass at local St. Joseph’s in Auburn, CA.  Becca was all smiles walking down the aisle and Matt, well, he was a bit chocked up.  So sweet.

Once the formalities of the ceremony were over, the group enjoyed themselves with limo libations and a brief stop for photo ops on the steps of the historic Old Auburn Courthouse. Prior to joining guests at the reception, the newlyweds enjoyed quiet strolling on the grounds of Gold Hill Gardens  –  but those groomsmen had some shenanigans planned!!

Megan & Scott ~ Married! {Part 1}

Jul 17, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  1 Comment

The very kind and thoughtful Megan and her honey Scott were married in May at gorgeous Gold Hill Gardens. This lush garden, rolling-hilled property is in the foothills near Sacramento and not too far from Megan’s childhood home. Planning their wedding from the Monterey region, where they now live, was challenging for this busy couple so to the rescue I came… and it was a piece of cake (wait until you see pictures of the cake!!) Megan chose a springtime palette with vibrant colors for the flowers (created by the talented Katie Edwards of Ambience Floral Design). For the First Look, the nervous groom waited for his bride-to-be on a charming bridge amongst the majestic oaks and yes, the cattle lazily grazing in the adjacent pasture, made their way to the fence to see what’s up! There was threat of rain during the ceremony, which made for an awesome sky, but not a drop fell… it was a gorgeous evening.   Come back for Part 2 to see all the reception fun and beauty.  Photography kudos go to Teresa Kosterman of Teresa K Photography – thank you!!

Megan and Scott are getting married in just two days!!  They are a mellow couple and so easy to work with…it’s been a lovely time planning, and I can’t wait to see them tie the knot at the beautiful Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA.  These e-session photos were taken by the incredible Teresa K Photography – the tree house is a remnant of Megan’s childhood.  Do you think we’ll have an outstanding wedding day?  Heck Yes!

It’s cake design and tasting season!

Apr 17, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

My summer couples are enjoying the arduous task – NOT! of cake tasting.  Most of my brides are equipped with their fav pins or a handful of tear sheets when they head off to the bakery, but remember that most bakeries will have some lovely examples of a variety of their prize cakes that can be inspiration. Designing the cake dove-tails into the overall design concept.  I recently stumbled across a well written and informative on-line article on the Top Ten Tips for a Wow Factor Wedding Cake – read the article here.   Excellent points made.  Have fun… this is an appointment that the fellas usually enjoy, too!

Below are a variety of beautiful and fun wedding cakes from weddings I have had the pleasure of planning.

M & C ~ Married!

Nov 14, 2014   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  1 Comment

M & C described to me the vibe and vision of the wedding they desired… lots of style, romance and sophistication, but also showcase their fun, whimsical side through their mutual love of Disneyland and Mickey Mouse.  Due to the nature of C’s job and a matter of National security, there are no images that disclose his face, so, check out the fun details and the overall photography and that very vibrant Disney color palette; notice the boutonnière… a cute nod to Mickey! The traditional Catholic nuptial mass was held at Sacramento’s beautiful Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Outside on the church steps, Air Force officers, wearing required white gloves, lined up for the Saber Arch – fabulous!  Guests then moved on to the dinner reception held at the impressive Sacramento Grand Ballroom that was both elegantly decorated and held lots of whimsy. Ettore’s European Bakery created the groom’s cake (Black Forest) and the very fun wedding cake which was a definite showstopper!
