Jessica & Daniel ~ Married!

Sep 16, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I am delighted to be able to plan and coordinate a variety of wedding themes and styles, from the very relaxed to the ultra-traditional, as was the case for Jessica and Daniel’s black-tie wedding held this last spring.  Jessica is sweet, refined, shy, and gracious with the glamorous old Hollywood looks of Audrey Hepburn.  Daniel is a gregarious New Yorker, polite and funny with a bit of “rascal” tendencies.  After a First Look they were giddy, adorable and attached at the hip throughout the remainder of the day.

The beautifully appointed historic Sutter Club in downtown Sacramento was selected to host the traditional Jewish wedding ceremony.  Prior to guests arriving, a gathering with the Rabbi for the signing of the Ketubah (Jewish wedding contract) was held.  The long, ornate upstairs California Room was used for the ceremony where the couple wed under the chuppa (built by Jessica’s dad and decorated by Jackie’s Flowers)… and of course Daniel concluded the ceremony with the breaking of the glass to a loud and joyous Mazel Tov!!!

Cocktails, an abundant seafood buffet and a trio entertained the guests during the cocktail hour and then was followed by a multi-coursed dinner right after Daniel’s grandmamma blessed the challah bread.  Each table received pieces of broken challah to share.  The bride’s choice of décor was cream, blush, shades of light pink with gold accents – the head table that held 28 bridal party members and guests was beautifully dressed in a specialty linen, while the guest tables wore a crisp cream linen. Between courses the First Dance was held, along with the daddy/daughter and mother/son. We “re-purposed” the beautiful ceremony chuppa for the wedding cake display (check out that touch of bling on the specialty cake table linen).

Following toasts, guests moved to the downstairs Grand Hall, Library and Card Room for dancing to a full band, sampling from a chocolate display, goofing around in the photo booth (even those formal folks got silly in the booth).  The evening ended with a sparkler exit with at least 95% of the guests remaining to send this couple off to their hotel.

Jessica & Peter ~ Married! {Part 1}

Aug 12, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  1 Comment

Jessica and Peter married in June on a warm summer afternoon at the gorgeous venue known as Field and Pond.  Rural, country roads, fantastic barn, beautiful Craftsman style house for dressing, and a serene pond to gaze upon. I am obsessed with this wedding, and especially with the photography style of Elizabetta (Lilly) with Lilly Red Photography. She captured the natural beauty of the property, the simplicity of Jessica’s clean and sophisticated sweet design, as well as the emotions of the couple and their bridal party.  I love the bridesmaids’ choices in dresses (keeping the color in the nude/blush tones)… AND THAT GOWN… Wow!!

Check out these images and see what I mean… (be sure to return for Part 2 to read more about the details and beauty).

In catching up with my reading (that’s on-going!) I came across this excellent article from mywedding.com on bridal bouquets.  Click here.

Over the last couple of month, I  have been meeting with my late summer/early fall brides for their floral design. It’s interesting the range of what brides are going for right now.  Clearly, the “messy-just-picked” vibrant collection is a fav, but the classic white, monochromatic design is also a strong contender.

What are you drawn to?  All flowers are beautiful, and so special.

Say Hello to Jess & Peter… haven’t met Peter as yet, but Jess is a sweetie and has great vision.  I am super excited for their wedding this June where we’ll be embracing Nature’s beauty at the gorgeous Field and Pond in Winters, CA.  You can tell from these e-session images that they are nature lovers – perfect!

Planning Daughter #2’s Wedding {Post 2} ~ Gown Shopping!

Feb 19, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Proposal (check), venue selection (check)… and now the super fun part – shopping for wedding gowns!! Juliana is one smart cookie… because she lives in Portland and there is no sales tax in Oregon, she wanted to purchase the gown up North.  So a girls trip was planned… whoot hoot.  Big sister, myself and Derek’s mother joined us for this very fun weekend.

1 1a

Poor Derek… four women took over his house, but he was a good sport about it and listened as we had constant chatter.  Upon arrival, the “second proposal” occurred… Juliana asked Allison to be her Matron of Honor (which Allison, now a married woman objected to the word “matron.”)  In true Portlandia style, Juliana used egg cartons and filled them with her homemade jam, organic soap, jazzy tote bag, and other cute items plus a very sweet note (which made me cry when Allison read it).

During our 2+ days we visited three lovely wedding salons (one offered us champagne – classy).  We were a proper audience.  Darn near every gown looked great on my kid. We critiqued only when necessary and complimented always.  The obligatory giant clip shot was required!  Sorry… you’ll not see “thee” gown in these photos!

Whirlwind weekend, but we made time for a little eating, walking around shops, and enjoying Salt & Straw ice cream.  Yummmmm.

It was a great time… my two daughters as so-so similar but as different as night and day.  When big sister, Allison married last year, she had a very specific look in mind for her gown and never wavered… but Juliana was a bit “all over the board.” What she ultimately selected is perfection and very her!

A Surprise 30th Anniversary Party!

Feb 7, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  1 Comment

Last month I had the honor of witnessing a 30+ year old love story.  It was an awesome night!  {Prepare yourself for a long blog post}  Sacramento photographer, Bill Quinn, asked me months ago to plan a surprise 30th Anniversary Party for his wife Ruth.  My reaction was… “Are you kidding me? A surprise?  NO, Bill, all women want to know what’s going on, to envision their party, to plan what to wear and to be excited about the upcoming event.”  Bill hung tight and said, he wanted it a surprise, mainly because Ruth would have talked him out of spending the resources… seems Bill is the romantic and Ruth is practical.  (That’s perhaps what makes a great 30 year long marriage… its all about balance).  We selected the gorgeous midtown Sacramento venue of Antiquite Maison Privee, and for seven months, I planned, met with Bill in secret on a few occasions (that felt weird), avoided Ruth’s eye contract at industry networking functions,  and designed with all the vendors we had selected. Bill gave me the reins and we created a night to remember.  All 70 guests kept it a secret (amazing!) and as you’ll see from the photos below… Ruth was indeed surprised (shocked would be a better word)!

1 Anniversary Party A Day to Remember 2 Antiquitie Maison Privee A Day to Remember 3 4 5 6 7 The gem stone for 30 years of marriage is the pearl and the flower is lily… so florist Cheryl Sage with Accents by Sage, did a fantastic job at incorporating lush flowers with fragrant lilies and hanging strands of pearls.  We worked with a white, blush and burgundy color palette and Cheryl supplied the gorgeous overlays to really set the table off.  I had paperie made for each place setting giving fun facts of “what happened in history 30 years ago” – good conversation piece.

18 19 20 30 white bridal bouquet A Day to Remember Ruth was happy and excited to see so many friends, clients and family in attendance.  But with surprises that kept on coming, my favorite part of the evening was when they cut their pearl accented wedding anniversary cake, Bill made a speech that included just how much he loved his “bride” and in keeping with the style of the TV show, The Bachelor, he presented Ruth with a rose and asked if she would marry him again.  Guests were thrilled as she turned and saw the sweetheart table was removed and their church minister was in position at the “alter,” I handed her a beautiful bridal bouquet and they walked together to renew their vows. I was hoping Ruth wouldn’t faint!  Bill slipped a pearl ring on their finger and their family and friends encircled them as they pledged their love and continued future to each other.  So sweet!!!

Our many thanks to the photographer Bill selected to capture the moments… great work Wendy Hithe!!  Jackson Catering set up the bar and created a sumptuous buffet that was so-so good,  Freeport Bakery whipped up the yummy pearl studded cake, Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services was smooth and flawless as DJ/MC and the lighting was so perfect in that space.  Thanks also to Lara of The Calligraphy Girl for the fun sign out front!

Becky & Josh ~ Married! {Part 2}

Jan 22, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Part 2 showcases the reception beauty of Becky and Josh’s fall wedding.  After they married in the historic Elks Tower Ballroom, the newlyweds had a bit of private time up on the Penthouse balcony and the guests moved to the building’s “Underground Lounge” – this is an awesome space within the building that was once used for the swimming pool and spa for the Elks Members (back in the day).  It’s now a unique cocktail area… the lighting created by Mr. DJ Event Service was perfect for guests to enjoy their Moscow Mules in cold copper mugs.  Love it!  While guests noshed, the Ballroom was transformed from ceremony seating to dining and dancing.  Autumnal flowers were abundant and the head table was a vision (I do love to design the headtable as a “great table” and make it a showstopper.)  The groom’s mama created the towering wedding cake – how special is that?

Thank you Becky and Josh for asking me to be a part of your great day… we had fun, didn’t we?  And it was a blast working with an outstanding design team – thank you to Mike Regan for your mad lighting skills and professional MC/DC work (you had the crowd dancin’ that’s for sure).  Michael Coutier of The Party Concierge does outstanding floral work.  Classic Party Rentals had the perfect linens for this color palatte and love the Starburt chargers we used for the head table.  And Sharon Hoyt, you’re a little dynamo at capturing all the details.  Thanks also to the Elks Team for fast and efficient plated dinner service that was yummy!  Thank you.

Landscape Lighting Makes a Difference!

Recently on the Alyssa & Austin ~ Married! blog post, you saw beautiful bright florals and the expansive backyard where the dinner reception and dance party took place.  We arranged through Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services to create a dramatic effect to the lanscaping and to the country manor home with the use of Italian Market Lights and uplighting and spotlighting of many points in the gardens.  Please click here to see an excellent video (courtesy of Acti-Video) showing the “before and after” of the lighting effects.

Thank you Mike for all your  hard work and vision.  Readers:  If considering lighting for your next event, whether in an indoor ballroom, or outside, reach out to Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services… nice guy, too!

Site Visit… fun to see the beginnings

Aug 2, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

This weekend I had the pleasure of touring a new venue ~ Lotus View Ranch (website under construction) near the very tiny hamlet of Pilot Hill, CA. This lovely property is nestled in the pines, oaks and chaparrel of the foothills of the historic Gold Country. I spent a long time with the owner, riding along in his open air kubota as he described his vision. Spots to hold a wedding ceremony, spots to sit alfresco and dine (pond side is an option), spots to sit and look out at the Crystal Range of the Sierras.  He has a ways to go before total completion, but it’s an awesome property right now! Trish with Getting Hitched Rentals and Ramona with Simply Country Weddings did a beautiful job styling the venue for this pre-opening.
