Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 13, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

As I mentioned in { Part 1} Suzanne and Chris was theee best couple with such a big heart and lots of energy!!  Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA offered the light-hearted elements they were looking for in their Special Day.  After the ceremony, during the cocktail hour, guests could stroll the property, enjoy a beverage, play ping-pong, cornhold, giant chess or jenga, (all these lawn games are permanent features of the venue!)  The newlyweds enjoyed a bit of photo time, along with some dee-licious grilled cheese sandwiches created by Jackson Catering & Events!

The color palette Suzanne wished for was romantic, natural, soft and “simply elegant.”  Working with the common thread of gray as the underlay, Katie with Ambience Floral Design, designed a free flowing centerpiece of greens, whites and varying heights of candles.  Very pretty.

Looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, Chris and Suzanne decided three different food stations would be fun for their guests – Loaded Mac and Cheese station, unique salads served with corn bread, and the street tacos were OUTSTANDING and a huge hit! Jackson Catering & Events knocked it out of the park!!

Two elements Chris desired was a full bar (check), and incorporating his favorite Land Park neighborhood Marie’s Donuts, into the dessert.  Looks so good, right?  I suggested an iced bucket of plain and chocolate milk to be served alongside (YES!), and displayed some donuts in the familiar pink box for a bit of whimsy.  At the end of the evening, I believe there might have been 4 donuts remaining!  After a few toasts, the dance party started with Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services at the helm.

What a beautiful, fun-filled and family-centric wedding this was.  I loved every minute of planning and executing.  Thank you Chris and Suzanne for allowing me to work with you on creating probably Thee Best Day Ever!!  See you in the neighborhood… maybe at Marie’s Donuts!

Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 1}

Dec 11, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I cannot possibly adore this couple any more than I do.  I love both families, too.  In fact, I planned two other weddings (groom’s sisters) and am grateful for their friendship.  Suzanne and Chris fell in love with Gold Hill Gardens, in Newcastle, CA and selected late September for their big day.  The venue had everything they desired – beautiful vistas, gorgeous gardens, fun games, room to spread out and lots of dancing space on the courtyard patio.  Suzanne is beautiful, bubbly ,sexy, happy and hysterically funny.  Chris is tall, handsome, the nicest person in the world, sincere and has the best “ugly cry” imaginable.  And his posse of groomsmen were off the hook – so much fun and craziness!  Sorry Gold Hill… I’m hoping the pillow fight and dog pile on the bed didn’t cause a loss in deposit!

And, yes… this is a onsie bunny romper Suzanne  likes to relax in – don’t judge!!

This series of photos of the First Look is so-so sweet.  Talk about the emotions.  I LOVE THIS and am so happy when a couple agrees to have this time together.

You know it’s going to be a good party when two friends pre-arranged their seating to greet the newlyweds with a flask at the end of the aisle!!

I’m thinking this couple is pretty stoked to be Mr. and Mrs.  The happiness level was off the charts!

Come back to see more happy photos and all the pretty details in { Part 2}.

Many, Many thanks to an equally happy and fun loving photographer, Beth of True Love Photo.  A perfect match for this couple!

Happy 31st Wedding Anniversary {smile}

Jan 13, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Normally, I give a shout out and best wishes to my couples on their First Wedding Anniversary, well, Bill & Ruth Quinn’s anniversary wish is just a bit different.  I wanted to show off these great photos (taken by Wendy Hithe Photography) of last year’s SURPRISE 30th anniversary party that Bill asked me to plan for his “bride.”  It was indeed a surprise to Ruth, and Bill and I pulled off a monumental evening.  Just when Ruth caught her breath from shock, and hugging and being loved, Bill then proposed again to Ruth and we had a renewal of vows ceremony.  It was a wonderful evening.  Happy 31st Anniversary love birds!

The 30th anniversary traditional flower is the lily and the gem is the pearl.

The party was held at mid-town Sacramento’s Antiquite Maison Privee, beautiful florals by Accents by Sage, lighting and DJ/MC by Mr. DJ Event Services, cake by Freeport Bakery. bar and catering by Jackson Catering.

Happy 1st Anniversary Rachel & Joe !

This bride has the biggest smile and this groom has the biggest heart.  Rachel and Joe’s wedding held at The Barn at Second Wind, one year ago, was so full of love and romance – I was delighted to be involved with this couple and the planning of their wedding day.  Lots of details, the color purple, loving family and happiness – and all captured by the ultra cool Lori Makabe.

Happy Anniversary Lovebirds… you’re an awesome pair!

A Surprise 30th Anniversary Party!

Feb 7, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  1 Comment

Last month I had the honor of witnessing a 30+ year old love story.  It was an awesome night!  {Prepare yourself for a long blog post}  Sacramento photographer, Bill Quinn, asked me months ago to plan a surprise 30th Anniversary Party for his wife Ruth.  My reaction was… “Are you kidding me? A surprise?  NO, Bill, all women want to know what’s going on, to envision their party, to plan what to wear and to be excited about the upcoming event.”  Bill hung tight and said, he wanted it a surprise, mainly because Ruth would have talked him out of spending the resources… seems Bill is the romantic and Ruth is practical.  (That’s perhaps what makes a great 30 year long marriage… its all about balance).  We selected the gorgeous midtown Sacramento venue of Antiquite Maison Privee, and for seven months, I planned, met with Bill in secret on a few occasions (that felt weird), avoided Ruth’s eye contract at industry networking functions,  and designed with all the vendors we had selected. Bill gave me the reins and we created a night to remember.  All 70 guests kept it a secret (amazing!) and as you’ll see from the photos below… Ruth was indeed surprised (shocked would be a better word)!

I was hoping Ruth wouldn’t faint!  Bill slipped a pearl ring on their finger and their family and friends encircled them as they pledged their love and continued future to each other.  So sweet!!!

Our many thanks to the photographer Bill selected to capture the moments… great work Wendy Hithe!!  Jackson Catering set up the bar and created a sumptuous buffet that was so-so good,  Freeport Bakery whipped up the yummy pearl studded cake, Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services was smooth and flawless as DJ/MC and the lighting was so perfect in that space.  Thanks also to Lara of The Calligraphy Girl for the fun sign out front!

Becky & Josh ~ Married! {Part 1}

Jan 19, 2016   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Excited to finally be able to showcase this gorgeous wedding from last fall.  Becky and Josh crack me up… so casual, so relaxed (yet there was nervousness on wedding day) but through the months of planning, it was a breeze because of Becky’s casual nature.  She had her floral colors decided upon and her fun bridesmaids “flapper” dresses nailed, then I took over and added in the vibrant pops of blue and worked with Michael Coulter of Party Concierge on showcasing those wonderful floral colors.  Beautiful work.  The venue was the 1920’s historic Elks Tower in downtown Sacramento – so many spaces within one building.  Girls prepped, dressed and noshed in the Penthouse Lounge, the ceremony was held in the elegant Ballroom, and wait until you see where the cocktail hour was held {Part 2}!

This was a bit of an awkward but funny moment… in setting up the First Look, as Josh came around the corner to open up the doors, they had locked from the inside!  Becky stood looking at him from the inside foyer and Josh was peering through the glass and reflection to see her!!

Rachel & Joe ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 15, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Rachel & Joe were married on a warm day in August at the Barn at Second Wind.  Located along the Sacramento River just south of downtown, this was the perfect venue for the vision of a “casual country vibe, with a bit of bling.”  Check out Part 1 to read about the ceremony and leading up to the nuptials.  After the wedding, guests enjoyed lawn games, and appetizers under the spread of a heritage oak tree.  Gentlemen (and a few ladies) relaxed in the Cigar Lounge set up by Trish of Getting Hitched? Wedding Rentals – Trish also provided all the beautiful white-washed chairs and rustic farm tables, much of the table décor, and other cool furniture pieces.  The beautiful flowers were created by Emily with Embellish Floral Design.  A yummy “farm to table” summer time buffet was served up by All Seasons All Reasons and a very special wedding cake was made by Joe’s mother (how cool is that?).  Second Wind is across the street from the river which offers outstanding photo ops; the railroad tracks are perfect for pictures (don’t worry, it’s a discontinued line!!)  And Oh My Goodness, my buddy Mike of Mr. DJ Event Services created outstanding lighting effects, but also caused this party crowd to take their dancing seriously.  Including a little Whip/Nae Nae!

Landscape Lighting Makes a Difference!

Nov 4, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Recently on the Alyssa & Austin ~ Married! blog post, you saw beautiful bright florals and the expansive backyard where the dinner reception and dance party took place.  We arranged through Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services to create a dramatic effect to the lanscaping and to the country manor home with the use of Italian Market Lights and uplighting and spotlighting of many points in the gardens.  Please click here to see an excellent video (courtesy of Acti-Video) showing the “before and after” of the lighting effects.

Alyssa & Austin ~ Married!

On a beautiful warm summer day, high school sweethearts Alyssa and Austin married at the home of a family friend – an historic country manor estate along the Sacramento River in Walnut Grove, CA.  Alyssa is sweet, pretty, shy and kind; Austin is devoted to “Lissy,” fun loving and has movie star looks (right?)  Alyssa requested bright colors for the floral palette – a citrus theme, and Katie with Ambience Floral Design certainly hit the nail on the head.  Gorgeous!   With a lovely string quartet playing as guests arrived, the estate was the backdrop for the wedding ceremony and felt very Gatsby-esque… especially following the ceremony when guests picked up glasses of champagne as they made their way to the lovely backyard for the dinner reception.  We created a cute brick lined flower bed of alyssum plants for the escort cards (notice that tie-in with Alyssa’s name?).  This couple loves their Italian food and requested an antipasto display, which Beth Sogaard Catering beautifully executed.  Dining family-style, alfresco poolside, and then later dancing to a full party band, The Mixx, with stunning landscape lighting and bistro market lights strung about, this was a very happy bride and groom who enjoyed a fantastic {better than} Gatsby vibe wedding day!  The lovely crystal clear photos were taken by Kris Holland Photography… the not so good ones, courtesy of my iPhone!

Those eyes…

Oct 8, 2015   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

This Saturday will be wedding day for Becky & Josh.  Judging from these shots from their recent e-session, I’m thinking this fun couple is going to be quite fetching in their wedding attire.  Those eyes speak volumes.  Becky reminds me of a female Peter Pan – so, so cute!
