Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 13, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

As I mentioned in { Part 1} Suzanne and Chris was theee best couple with such a big heart and lots of energy!!  Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA offered the light-hearted elements they were looking for in their Special Day.  After the ceremony, during the cocktail hour, guests could stroll the property, enjoy a beverage, play ping-pong, cornhold, giant chess or jenga, (all these lawn games are permanent features of the venue!)  The newlyweds enjoyed a bit of photo time, along with some dee-licious grilled cheese sandwiches created by Jackson Catering & Events!

The color palette Suzanne wished for was romantic, natural, soft and “simply elegant.”  Working with the common thread of gray as the underlay, Katie with Ambience Floral Design, designed a free flowing centerpiece of greens, whites and varying heights of candles.  Very pretty.

Looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, Chris and Suzanne decided three different food stations would be fun for their guests – Loaded Mac and Cheese station, unique salads served with corn bread, and the street tacos were OUTSTANDING and a huge hit! Jackson Catering & Events knocked it out of the park!!

Two elements Chris desired was a full bar (check), and incorporating his favorite Land Park neighborhood Marie’s Donuts, into the dessert.  Looks so good, right?  I suggested an iced bucket of plain and chocolate milk to be served alongside (YES!), and displayed some donuts in the familiar pink box for a bit of whimsy.  At the end of the evening, I believe there might have been 4 donuts remaining!  After a few toasts, the dance party started with Mike Regan of Mr. DJ Event Services at the helm.

What a beautiful, fun-filled and family-centric wedding this was.  I loved every minute of planning and executing.  Thank you Chris and Suzanne for allowing me to work with you on creating probably Thee Best Day Ever!!  See you in the neighborhood… maybe at Marie’s Donuts!

Suzanne & Chris ~ Married! {Part 1}

Dec 11, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I cannot possibly adore this couple any more than I do.  I love both families, too.  In fact, I planned two other weddings (groom’s sisters) and am grateful for their friendship.  Suzanne and Chris fell in love with Gold Hill Gardens, in Newcastle, CA and selected late September for their big day.  The venue had everything they desired – beautiful vistas, gorgeous gardens, fun games, room to spread out and lots of dancing space on the courtyard patio.  Suzanne is beautiful, bubbly ,sexy, happy and hysterically funny.  Chris is tall, handsome, the nicest person in the world, sincere and has the best “ugly cry” imaginable.  And his posse of groomsmen were off the hook – so much fun and craziness!  Sorry Gold Hill… I’m hoping the pillow fight and dog pile on the bed didn’t cause a loss in deposit!

And, yes… this is a onsie bunny romper Suzanne  likes to relax in – don’t judge!!

This series of photos of the First Look is so-so sweet.  Talk about the emotions.  I LOVE THIS and am so happy when a couple agrees to have this time together.

You know it’s going to be a good party when two friends pre-arranged their seating to greet the newlyweds with a flask at the end of the aisle!!

I’m thinking this couple is pretty stoked to be Mr. and Mrs.  The happiness level was off the charts!

Come back to see more happy photos and all the pretty details in { Part 2}.

Many, Many thanks to an equally happy and fun loving photographer, Beth of True Love Photo.  A perfect match for this couple!

Amanda & Michael ~ Married! {Part 2}

Dec 1, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

If you read Part 1 on the blog about this  fun couple’s wedding, you’ll have learned that the day was H-O-T!  Like record heat H-O-T.  What I love about Amanda is that a week later, when I talked to her, she felt the weather conditions added to the details of the wedding – it did not detract and she feels will be one of the many memories they will carry with them in fondly remembering their special wedding day.  Love that positivity.

The wedding was held at Gold Hill Gardens in Newscastle, CA.  The “cool” ceremony site they chose was creekside in front of the majestic Heritage Oak tree, and once the nuptials were completed, guests headed up to the poolside bar, men rolled up their sleeves and all enjoyed libations. Some cute ladies dangled their legs in the pool, and a few others had a hand at corn hole and other lawn games.  The color palette Amanda and Michael choose was navy blue with “hot” orange accents and being total nature lovers, the flowers (which doubled as ceremony hanging aisle décor) were placed on a wood cut round and a rustic candle lantern accompanied the centerpiece.  Bridal bouquets were placed in vases to add to the head table décor.

As he evening progressed, the sun lowered in the sky, and the temperatures cooled down a bit, those hot guests started to get into the swing of things and really, really enjoyed themselves.  A delicious buffet by Jackson Catering & Events filled their tummies, and of course, just knowing that dessert was a table full of Krispy Kreme donuts (in lieu of a traditional cake), put smiles on the face of many excited guests.  Michael and Amanda enjoyed their quiet time away with photographer Teresa of Teresa K Photography who knows how to set up a “sunset shot” – even with the absence of clouds, these shots are gorgeous!

Love the First Dance between Amanda and Michael, and the emotions showing in this father-daughter dance moment is killer… so sweet.  But once those traditional dances were completed,  Steve Schon with Function 45 Event Entertainment pulled out the stops and this crowd totally forgot about the earlier heat in the day and got their groove on!

Makes you wonder what song these newlyweds were singing.  Such happiness and joy!

I am so thankful for the wonderful team who worked hard, tirelessly and with smiles on their faces through the very hot day.  Great group of professionals:

Amanda & Michael ~ Married! {Part 1}

Nov 29, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Love how Michael and Amanda came into my life… and I was thrilled to be part of their planning experience.  Michael was one of the groomsmen in my daughter and son-in-law’s 2016 wedding, and he and Amanda really enjoyed my kiddo’s wedding and knowing I had a certain hand in the planning (no surprise there!), asked if I could be involved in their 2017 wedding. Absolutely!  A relaxed, non-fussy, lovers of nature couple, I suggested for a wedding venue that they check out Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle, CA, and it was a perfect fit.  So much so, they stayed 3 days at the Inn at Gold Hill Gardens for a mini-moon!  The spot along the bridge and creek, under the amazing spreading Heritage Oak was ideal for their style and vision of the ceremony site.  The date was set for the Labor Day Weekend, and we were somewhat prepared that it could be a warm afternoon… but we may not have been absolutely prepared for the  hottest day of the summer – predictions were for 110 degrees, but not to worry, during the ceremony, my iPhone app only showed 106 degrees (IN THE SHADE)!!!  We provided the guests with parasols, amusing personalized hand-held fans, water bottle sprayers and battery operated fans.  All were appreciated.

Rev. Jeri Murphy performed a lovely, meaningful and touching ceremony.  Michael and Amanda wanted the tradition of a Unity Candle lighting –  both sets of parents, with many years of marriage between them, were invited to light the side family candles. With such great role models, it was very symbolic.

Once the ceremony was over, guests moved to the poolside reception area for some serious liquid refreshment, Michael slipped off his suit jacket, and the newlyweds enjoyed a private moment with great laughter and love.  Come back in a few days for { Part 2 } to see how the evening progressed once the sun went down and the evening got cooler!  Can you say DANCE PARTY!?

What a fantastic vendor team I had the privilege of working with – who smiled through the hot afternoon:

Chris & Suzanne ~ Getting Married this Weekend!

Sep 18, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I cannot get enough of this wonderful couple.  Chris & Suzanne are marrying this coming Saturday at the beautiful Gold Hill Gardens in the foothills outside of Sacramento.  The weather is going to be cool and pleasant.  This couple is going to be “steamy hot!!”  I love how the wonderful Queen B (Beth Baugher) of True Love Photo captured the playfulness of these two, and the sulty, sexy side, too.  Their e-session was a ton-of-fun.  The wedding photos will be epic!  Can’t wait.

Kelly & Lee ~ Married! {Part 2}

Aug 12, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Kelly and Lee had a beautiful, loving  wedding ceremony held at Gold Hill Gardens (be sure to go back to {Part 1} to catch up).  Following that ceremony-in-the-round, some romantic photos were taken on the gorgeous grounds of this foothill property, and then the newlyweds joined their guests who were noshing, enjoying the bar, playing lawn games and soaking up the ambience.  Thankfully the rains stopped the day before, but the clear top tent we had previously erected, provided a lovely setting for the dinner reception.

Kelly asked Ambience Floral Design for tulips – lots of tulips – in every color of the rainbow – it was a spring wedding after all, so this floral choice was perfect!  We set up three long rows of wood farm tables, laid out a lacey runner and lined the table with different vases of fun, bright flowers.  The “starburst” silver charger plate added a bit of bling to the rustic wood tables.  Kelly and Lee decided on holding a Family Style Dinner to be served to their 60 guests – Jackson Catering started the meal off with delicious shrimp cocktails, and for fun, at each of the following two courses, I had Kelly and Lee move to a reserved pair of seats at each of the three tables; that way they could enjoy conversation and mingling with most of their guests during dinner.

The lovely wedding cake created by Devine Desserts was positioned in the gazebo on the knoll.  Notice the clever hanging of the tulips from around the gazebo framing!  Love it!  After toasts and desserts and conversation by candlelight, Steve with Function 45 amped up the music, and had the guests dancing (and singing).  What a fun evening!

Thank you to all the vendors who contributed to Kelly and Lee’s wonderful wedding day, and thank you, to my sweet clients for the opportunity to plan and coordinate your special day.  Many happy years together!!

Kelly & Lee ~ {Married} ! {Part 1}

Aug 10, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  4 Comments

When Kelly and Lee came to me several months before their wedding date, they told me right off, that they wanted something “different” not “run of the mill.” Well, I LOVE THAT, and I ADORE this couple!! They had previously selected the gorgeous Gold Hill Gardens in Newcastle CA, and had set a date of April 23rd… hummm, my discussion following was about having a back-up plan – springtime in the foothills, after all!  Gold Hill Gardens is a fantastic all outdoor venue with gardens and expansive views, and luckily they can accommodate a tent structure, so Kelly and Lee were in agreement, and said if they had to have a tent, then they would love the clear top tent that I suggested would be perfect.

And funny… it rained all during the week, with a promise that it might clear up on wedding day. Well, we decided to be safe, and had the tent installed – it was stunning!  But it did NOT rain on their day.

Because this couple was an established pair, with a blending of children, they tossed aside tradition, and chose to have a pre-social for their guests, and Kelly would wear a fun cocktail dress (she looked fabulous). Their first look was light-hearted and informal and they got to enjoy their guests longer, with champagne in hand, and lawn games.  Kelly’s love for multi-colored tulips was carried forth in many places, starting with a fun, full and flirty bouquet.   After a bit of mingling,  I sent her up to the Inn to change into her stunning gown to prepare for the wedding.

To be “different,” I designed the ceremony in the round. Having their family and friends encircle them appealed to Kelly and Lee’s sensibilities, and at each opening in the cross section, I positioned one of their children. The views from this top ceremony option at Gold Hill Gardens are fantastic – and there are no obstructions!

Following the ceremony, Kelly and Lee wandered off for some romantic photos, starting with the new blended family. Guests continued to mingle, play lawn games and enjoy passed appetizers.

Be sure to come back for Part 2 to see more on this wedding. It was a beauty.

Thanks to Sam w/The Red Sneaker Studio for capturing all the pretties and details. Also Katie w/Ambience Floral Design, Celebrations Party Rentals and Jackson Catering & Events.

Happy 1st Anniversary ~ Becca & Matt!

Jul 22, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

To sweet Becca and debonair Matt… Happy First Wedding Anniversary!!!  Your special day, held in the foothills outside of Sacramento, where the JULY HEAT was very evident, was such a wonderful, family and friend bonding day.  Becca chose soft pink tones which helped to make us all feel cooler (well, probably not, it did reach around 104 degrees that day).  Holding the traditional nuptial mass in an air conditioned Catholic church was VERY helpful, and Gold Hill Garden’s plentiful market umbrellas was definitely needed. The cattle in the nearby pasture sure enjoyed that cold watermelon slice!  But in spite of the heat, all was forgotten just watching your happiness and adoration for each other, and thankfully the sun set, the temps cooled down and thus the dance floor heated up – once again.  It was a great wedding! And I know you’ve had a wonderful first year of marriage {smile}… congrats on the new addition coming this fall!

Consider the idea of a Pre~Social… and TWO dresses!!

Jul 18, 2017   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

I often make a suggestion for a Pre-Social… which is anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes prior to the ceremony start time pending the setting, the activities and the length of time the venue allows for the entire gathering.  During the Pre-Social the couple mingles with their guests – which obviously allows you more time to be with your guests (a bonus!) and to extend the social aspect just a bit more.  Another bonus, is getting to wear a wedding “Party Dress” – now that’s fun!  You’ll mix and mingle for a little while, then drift away to slip into your gown and wedding shoes, put on your jewelry, freshen the lipstick, and then walk down the aisle.  The First Look is held while wearing the Party Dress… a great time to get your nervousness out of the way but then the “Second Look” is when you’re wearing your gown and your man sees you for the first time in full wedding attire.  Tears!

Some examples…

Kelly and Lee were married in the rolling foothills and beautiful gardens of Gold Hill Gardens.  They enjoyed their pre-social mingling with their 60 guests getting more time to converse and soak up the love surrounding them.  Kelly and Lee, both blue eyed, played off that color palette with Lee’s suit and blue patterned tie, while Kelly looked terrific in a navy blue short dress with embroidered flowers (she rocked some serious high heels, too!)  Kelly loved her fun and bright tulip wedding bouquet and  wanted to showcase it with her pre-social party dress, as well as with her lacey wedding gown.   Photo Credit:  Sam w/The Red Sneaker Studio   Florals:  Katie w/Ambience Floral Design

Erin & Jason were married at the 1924 Historic Julia Morgan House. Their 140 guests were treated to an elegant dinner party… the entire evening was designed as if the original mansion owners of yester-year were entertaining and providing sumptuous food and drink to their guests.  Erin’s pre-social cocktail dress was light pink, off the shouldar with a flirty angled hemline, and Jason sported a blue suit with lavender tie.  For the wedding, Erin was drop dead gorgeous and Jason also was fetching in a custom made tuxedo suit.   Photo Credit:  Allison Stahl Photography  Florals: DeAnn w/  Rodarte Floral Design

And even my own daughter opted for a Pre-Social prior to her wedding ceremony.  Juliana and Derek were married at The Barn at Second Wind a fantastic wedding venue in the country along the Sacramento Delta.  Juliana’s Pre-Social outfit was a simple white short dress with an eyelet lace detail and cute flat coral colored sandals.   They mixed and mingled with their 130 guests during a time we dubbed “Lemonade on the Lawn.”  Home made jams and jellies were pared with a selection of cheeses, and then off she went to change into a sweet, flowy wedding gown.  Photo Credit:  Sam w/The Red Sneaker Studio   Florals:  Sarah w/Cuttings Floral Design
