Basic to Bodacious Table #3

Jul 8, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Sorry everyone; I’m keeping you on the edge of your seats… it’s a busy time of year for us wedding planners!

Here is the 3rd of 4 installments of the Real Weddings Magazine photo shoot Katie Edwards of Ambience Floral Design and I created.  Thanks so much to The Memory Journalists for capturing all the details.

Entitled From Basic to Bodacious! And It’s All Beautiful! below are the photos and details of Table  #3 – “Delish Details”

With Table #3, we get even more involved.  The upgrades to this table are the eggplant-colored sashes on the white chair covers used in Table #2; gray swirled-patterned overlay to top each table (noticeable, and not a huge expense); upgraded clear charger plates with silver edges; eggplant-colored Champagne glasses (the addition of the colored glasses really made a statement!); and rented salad plates rimmed in silver to accent the house china.

A single custom-designed menu card is displayed in a silver frame -  and the hurricane centerpiece from Table #2 is now in a stand with the lush floral arrangement of orchids, tulips and hydrangeas on the surface of the table. Within the elevated hurricane on top of the stand Katie submerged cymbidium orchids.  Cool!

Here are the detailed costs for this table’s upgrades:

  • White chair cover with eggplant sash; $3.00 each, eight chairs totalling: $24.00
  • Gray swirled-patterned overlay rental; $18.00 each
  • Eggplant-colored napkin rentals; $1.50 each, eight place settings totalling: $12.00
  • Silver-rimmed salad plate rentals: $.92 each, eight place settings totalling: $7.36
  • Clear charger plates with silver edges rentals: $4 each, eight place settings  totalling: $32.00
  • Eggplant-colored Champagne glass rentals: $1.50 each, eight place settings totalling: $12.00
  • Single menu card – displayed in silver frame: $13.50
  • Raised metal stand, with hurricane with floating candle and flowers in low lush arrangement at base including orchids, roses, tulips and hydrangeas: ranging from $105-125 each

The total approximate cost for Table #3  is $225.00 to $245.00

Many thanks to Granite Bay Golf Club for allowing us to stage the photo shoot in the Convervatory, and to Celebrations Party RentalsBella Vita Invitations, Mimi & Co.,  and Classic Party Rentals .

Before I head off for the weekend to plan a beautiful Amador County (wine country) wedding, let me introduce the cutest pair ever… this is Stephane Tran and Curtis Contro who will be marrying in another wine region of Sonoma County in June 2012.  I love working with continued family… I planned the wedding for Curtis’ sister this last February (check out a previous blog for Gina and Rhett).  CONGRATULATIONS Steph and Curtis!  Let’s have some fun!

Scarecrow Greeters?

Jun 24, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

A  “greeter” positioned as the guests first arrive to a wedding is helpful.  The “greeter” can be a anybody… even a bride and groom SCARCROW!  In honor of Becca & Dustin Wilson’s First Wedding Anniversary, I thought I’d post these fun shots.  Married at the family home in Orangevale, CA, gardens were everywhere and the long front driveway was filled with tall sunflowers, vegetables and other flowering plants.  It was only natural to position this lovely pair within the gardens, pointing the way to the festivities!

Happy First Anniversary Dustin & Becca; it was a great wedding and I really miss working with you.  I know you are busy with the growing family!  Whoot Hoot!!

These fun photos were captured by the even more fun Beth Baugher of True Love Photo.  Thanks Bethy-B!

This design  ups the glam factor with white chair  covers, silver acrylic charger plates, oversized wine glasses and gray-colored  napkins. The centerpiece, which uses the same hurricane vase as Table #1, now  has a ring of peach, lavender and ivory roses, as well as hydrangea.  It’s complemented by a floating candle. The bride serving McDonald’s??

Jun 16, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Jessa Erwin married Robbie Teel last Saturday at the beautiful Monte Verde Inn. Jessa knows how very much Robbie loves his McDonald’s - specifically the #1, no lettuce, fries  and chocolate shake.  So, we arranged to have his favorite meal displayed on a silver tray and Jessa served her new husband his first dinner as a married man.

The guests loved this act of kindness and good humor, and so did Robbie!  Brownie Points!!

Don’t worry, Robbie thoroughly enjoyed the dee-lish Wedding Feast prepared by Chef Douglas of the Inn consisting of -

Tri-Tip with Chipotle & Lingonberry BBQ Sauce

Pan Roasted Sea Bass Fillet with Cilantro Lime & Chipotle Chili Aioli

Creamy Gruyere and Leek, Yukon Gold Scalloped Potatoes

Portabella Mushroom Risotto with Sun Dried Tomatoes & Shredded Parmesan

Roasted Asparagus Tossed with Sautéed Pancetta, Garlic & Olive Oil

Good Times!

Basic to Bodacious – Table #1

Jun 13, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments
I reccently teamed up with a wonderfully talented florist -  Katie Edwards of Ambience Floral Design to create four different table top designs showing how items can be added to a table to increase the beauty (i.e. increase the cost of the decor).  So many websites and bridal magazines show nothing but over-the-top tablescapes (not that there’s anything wrong with that!), but we wanted to show the differences  and steps and associated costs to transition from “Basic to Bodacious”.  The article was featured in the Summer 2011 Real Weddings Magazine.
Entitled From Basic to Bodacious! And It’s All Beautiful! Below are the photos and details of
Table 1 -”Basically Beautifully.”
This table is lovely, affordable and simple.  By utilizing  the “house” linens, china,  glassware and votive candles, there is no additional cost for your table, except for the floral centerpiece.  Katie used a glass hurricane with pillar candle and a scattering of rose petals.  The total approximate cost for
Table #1 is $25.00 to $35.00.

Please come back for the details of future tables to watch the development of design and understand how the costs are implemented.  Table #2 will be showcased in a few days.  Thanks to Jennifer of The Memory Journalists for capturing all these details.

Venue Vixens Picnic

Jun 9, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

Now that it appears the rains have stopped here in the Northern California region, let’s rejoice in the concept of Picnics!! Hurray!  The Venue Vixens (the venue finder team I am associated with) went on a Lodi Wine Region site inspection in March – when it was raining often, but we were fortunate to have picked a day when it wasn’t raining cats and dogs, and to celebrate we packed a picnic lunch and enjoyed the surroundings of Oak Farm Vineyards.

We enjoy food – a lot(!) and we were quite proud of our spread that we whipped up – without consulting each other.  Below is goat cheese with orange-fig jelly.

Always the decorator, Vixen Catrina packed vintage china and this lovely hobnail vase and sweet flowers.  Curry Chicken Sandwiches and pimento stuffed green olives were a hit.  Add some brie cheese, crusty bread, juicy grapes and delicious lavosh… Heaven!

We invite “Visiting Vixens” on our tours and we were happy that  Rebecca of Ford Family Photography could come along for the fun.  She took these great photos – and even brought presents to the two birthday girls – Cat and Moi!  It was a lovely picnic, in deed.

Here are a couple of photos of this gorgeous property – ponds, vineyards, magnificant oaks, cool vintage trucks (think photo ops!) and a stunning, huge white barn.  I so want to plan a wedding at this venue!

Open House at Diamond Bridal Gallery

Jun 6, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  No Comments

A couple of weeks ago I enjoyed being involved in an Open House at Diamond Bridal Gallery located in Granite Bay, CA.  Owner Seniya, is extremely knowledgeable of her gown inventory and is even more knowledgeable as to the right body shape for those gowns.  The salon is intimate and quiet (well, until the bride arrives with her entourage of happy girlfriends!); it is easy to shop for accessories to compliment that gorgeous gown – from undergarments, to jewelry to shoes.

Dessert was offered and boy! it was yummy.  Served up by  a new dessert company in the area – Lucy Loves Cupcakes - Carla created really fresh and tasty mini cupcakes as well as “cake pops.”

Mimi & Co. – specialty linens, provided our lovely tablecloths.  Notice the luscious rose pattern showing under the earring picture.  Eugene with Lixxim Photography was on hand to show off some of his fine work and he took a few shots of the action during the Open House.

Seniya (owner of Diamond Bridal Gallery, and assistant Marion , me (not in blue, but green!), Mimi (Mimi & Co.), Carla and her daughter (Lucy Loves Cakes), kneeling is Gaby (Mimi & Co.), and our “token male” Eugene of Lixxim Photography.

For brides looking for a low stress bridal salon, definitely consider visiting Diamond Bridal Gallery, located at 6963 Douglas Boulevard, Granite Bay, CA.

A kudo e-mail to make me smile

May 31, 2011   //   by Lora   //   Weddings  //  2 Comments

I don’t often post sweet thank you notes from my clients, but this one really hit home.  Last Saturday it rained on Kathleen & Ryan’s wedding day and their outdoor ceremony and dinner reception, held in Napa Valley at Villagio/Vintage Estates had to rapidly be re-designed into Plan B (and thank God we discussed Plan B in advance).  What nice words from my bride’s mother…

Good morning,

I can’t say enough about you Lora - you are the best coordinator I have ever known. Thank you so much for making Kathleen’s wedding day perfect. You truly have a gift, the way you handled Kathleen when the change had to be made was so perfect. No drama, just the facts and let’s move forward. You were awesome !!!  In working with everybody, you were like a mama bear taking care of her cubs!!! I will refer you to anyone I know getting married !!! Thank you again for making Kathleen’s day a perfect wedding day.          Ann (mother)
