Assn of Bridal Consultants Quarterly Meeting - It's All About The Groom
I am the co-director of the Northern California Association of Bridal Consultants (along with my pal Kendra Wershing of Pfeiffer Event Planning). Our Association meets quarterly and I had the pleasure of planning the January meeting. The theme had been rolling around in my head since last summer when I first met Ryan Hammonds of R. Douglas Custom Clothier. I wanted an evening where we ladies learned a bit about men's fashion and so the focus was about the groom and his entourage. Carissa of Sugar and Spice Specialty Desserts created a whimsical and delicious groom's cake for our enjoyment. So clever! I had a blast working with Sarah of Cuttings Floral Design for the table top design. The details were certainly evident - white bow tie, pleated table runner to replicate a cummerbund, black stones for the cuff links and studs, carnation petals for the boutonniere, and a pocket square tucked into the napkin. Darcie of Slip of Elegance Chair Covers provided the elegant tone-on-tone satin table linens and added a handsome black tie to the chair backs. The educational component to our evening included several topics. Besides Ryan giving us a great introduction to men's wear (you should see the detail he puts into his custom suits!), we also had Matt Brys of Extreme Productions giving us tips on how to incorporate the groom more into the reception planning session, and Mike Jensen of Jensen Films created a "movie" oriented to the men involved in the day. Evan Selby and Chef Chris Jackson of Tre Events created a knock-out buffet dinner consisting of bacon-wrapped chicken breast and the most heavenly mashed potatoes. No watercress finger sandwiches for us ladies... after all, it was a manly night! The venue I selected for this meeting was Antiquite Maison Privee in mid-town Sacramento, which is a unique, handsome, warm, urban-feel brick building that has historical significance. I am extremely appreciative that Carmen Salazar was on hand to take all these wonderful photos. Thank you to one and all for your contributions to a very interesting and informative evening! It's all in the {French} details - Lisa & Darren - Part 2
After just 10 weeks of planning, Lisa and Darren held their fantastic wedding at their newly purchased home which is of French Normandy architecture. There were many lovely design touches throughout the house, and I particularly zoned in on the fleur de leis that adorned the windows, wallpaper and wrought iron. When I learned that the newlyweds would be travelling to New Orleans for their honeymoon, the wonderful continuous thread of a theme started to develop. The fleur de lei design would be a subtle embellishment throughout! Lisa found these fantastic cuff links and presented them to Darren as a wedding gift! Sapphire blue and ivory were the colors to this wedding, and Darren loves iris. A perfect flower for this color palette. Sarah with Cuttings created all the florals, as well as custom making this great ring pillow happily carried by Lisa's son (and because he was old enough, it was O.K. to tie the real rings onto the pillow... something I do not recommend for the young ring bearers!) The guest count was 36... so intimate, so perfect and so Lisa and Darren. Just very close family members and special friends. Guests sat at three long tables. The exquisite menu cards, printed on shimmery paper, included the fleur de leis design. I surprised Lisa & Darren with hand-made pearl studded initials to mark their chairs. The remarkable Carissa of Sugar & Spice incorporated fantastic gold stamped fleur de lei patterned paper to line the dessert platters and plates - a perfect touch. She also had cute ribboned signs made to identify the flavors of the many small bites. The salted carmel truffles were poured into fleur de leis shaped molds. Fantastic! Beautiful wrought iron candle towers adorned the buffet table. I was thrilled when Lisa & Darren took me up on my suggestion to have a strolling table-side magician entertain the guests during the cocktail hour. What a riot! Guests were laughing, amazed, stumped and so curious. Darren spent some time in Japan, and Lisa has Japanese heritage, so they gave as a favor, a lovely wrapped box with unique saki cups. I love this photo... Jennifer with The Memory Journalists is just Thee Best. She set this shot up perfectly. Merci, Lisa & Darren for allowing me to help you with your wedding planning. It was a perfectly lovely day. Laisser le Bon Rouleau de Temps! Labels: Cuttings Floral Design, home wedding, Sacramento Wedding Coordinator, Sugar and Spice, The Memory Journalists
Cabinet Decorating Project
A few weeks ago the lovely Heidi, fabulous Catering Manager at Granite Bay Golf Club, asked if I would like to give a fresh look to the club's entry foyer cabinet. "Sure." I said. "Sounds like fun." Unfortunately, I could not have all four shelves to the cabinet as the members of the golf club want their trophies displayed (what's up with that notion?). I invited my pal, Sarah Acrich of Cuttings Floral Design, to assist me. We brain-stormed one night (over a few glasses of wine!) and came up with the theme of "Four Fabulous Seasons of Weddings at Granite Bay Golf Club." Sarah created beautiful wreaths to display in each of the window panels for the seasonal vignettes. She's very good! Below is the entire cabinet. Winter is in the icey-silver tones with blue/green and silvery peacock feathers. The wreath has bare branches with a touch of glitter sparkle and snowflakes. Champagne flutes and a bucket for the bottle of of bubbly were added. The two photos in frames were taken by The Memory Journalists. Look closely at the left picture and you'll see the bride wore white "wedding uggs." Perfect! Spring has the color palette of purple and green. Sweet jonquils, a bird's nest, fern, message rocks and pebbles complete this scene. The photo displayed, shot on the beautiful grounds of Granite Bay, was taken by Jordan's Photographic Designs. Summer was a fun vignette to create. Sarah's sunflower wreath included a beautiful trio of butterlies. My mouth watered as I rimmed the glass with lemon sugar for the perfect Lemon Drop beverage (a drink Granite Bay expertly prepares!) and, no those are not real lemons and strawberries... amazing how realistic fake fruit can look! The photo displayed was taken inside the Conservatory by Jeff of Sharpe Photographers, and just so happens to be the wedding of Darcie & Glenn (Darcie owns Slip of Elegance Chaircovers ). It was a lovely wedding!
Autumn (my most favorite time of year) is richly showcased using the colors of burgundy and gold. The square shaped wreath contains pomegranates, seedpods, wheat and a beautiful wide brocade ribbon. A gold charger, gold rimmed wine glass, acorn favor and a message written on a plate, in chocolate "Will you marry me?" finish off this seasonal display. The picture of the lovely couple looking toward the clubhouse was taken by Megan of Christopher Kight Photographers. So, if you ever find yourself out at Granite Bay Golf Club, check out the entry foyer cabinet. It's a work of art! And, for those brides looking for a wonderful wedding and reception venue, absolutely consider this property. And tell Heidi, that I sent you!!
